Picking Up STEAM!

This year, St. Mark’s introduced STEAM into our Library-Technology curriculum. STEAM is an anagram for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. Our first lab explored friction using elements to determine how friction effects speed and distance.

This month we are working on an Engineering project that helps us evaluate how tall structures are created and maintain stability. Our Tree project asks the question, “How tall can you go?” Using plastic cups, children were asked to plan, build, evaluate and improve their structures. Children found that a strong base produced the highest tower and that mixing materials can achieve greater heights.

Kinder through 3rd grade participated in the project with some spectacular results!
