This past week, Ms. Vinnedge and Mr. Harris took the 7th grade class to Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI), a unique science camp that provides an exciting outdoor education experience for students. Students focus on hands-on experiential science, utilizing state of the art labs and equipment, which increases science literacy and environmental stewardship. CIMI’s expert instructors guide students through island terrestrial biology, marine biology labs and field activities designed to stimulate minds, build character, develop social skills, and most importantly, create excitement about science. Catalina Island, one of the eight Channel Islands off the coastlines of Santa Barbara and Los Angeles counties, is a beautiful natural laboratory affording a unique look at coastal California ocean life, and that allows our students to build on the leadership and teamwork skills that were first developed in 6th grade at PALI. CIMI is a STEM based program.
