To be a place where love and hope abound…
we welcome everyone to our worship and communion,
we help one another understand God and know Jesus,
we nurture our community and the world, and
we celebrate diversity and work for social justice.
St. Mark’s Episcopal Church was founded in 1909, and we have worshipped in our present location on East 16th Street in Upland since 1965. The Rev. Keith Yamamoto is the sixteenth Rector to serve at St. Mark’s since its founding. Today we are two communities in one Parish: Church, and Preschool. We are Eucharistically centered and rejoice in the tradition of a strong preaching ministry. We welcome all people into the worship and life of St. Mark’s and celebrate the diverse needs and gifts of individuals. We seek and foster opportunities for spiritual growth and nurture. We offer a network of support which encourages pastoral care by parish members. We participate in a consistent stewardship effort to tend and beautify the church, to strengthen education and to struggle for social justice. We are a community of grace feeding hungry hearts in the Episcopal branch of the Jesus movement.
Our Parish is part of the Diocese of Los Angeles. The Right Rev. John Harvey Taylor is our Bishop Diocesan, The Rt. Rev Diane Jardine Bruce is our Bishop Suffragan.
The Episcopal Church in the United States, a member of the Worldwide Anglican Communion, is headed by The Most Rev. Michael Curry, Presiding Bishop
St. Mark’s Preschool was founded as the Upland Community Preschool shortly after St. Mark’s moved to its current location on East 16th Street in Upland. From the beginning it has been regarded as an educational outreach to the community. The school building completed in 1985 provided four new classrooms, kitchen, office, and a walled-in play yard. Parent involvement and support over the years have led to many successful improvements to the preschool environment. Today the Preschool offers morning and afternoon sessions with a qualified and dedicated teaching staff.
